Update from the President

Members,

The current officers and I have been discussing a slight change to elections beginning this year. We think it is best for the chapter to always maintain institutional knowledge among the officers. Maintaining an experience level in the officer positions across the years only serves to strengthen the chapter as a whole. To this end we are proposing the following beginning with the elections this year.

Elections this year will be for the positions of President, Communications, and Treasurer. We will hold those elections during November and conduct the elections via electronic ballot. Each member in good standing as of November 2009 will be given one vote for each position up for election. The current officers in the Vice President, Secretary, and Membership positions will continue to hold their positions through 2010. We will then conduct elections for those positions in November 2010. This way we will always have three officer positions with experienced people to provide continuity for the chapter. From this point on, we will have elections for three officer positions every November.

The bylaws state that the officers can select two members to serve as the Nominating Committee - I am soliciting two volunteers to serve in this capacity now. The Nominating Committee will be responsible for obtaining nominations from members for the three positions up for election this year, posting this to the electronic ballot system, collecting and announcing the results. If you are interested in serving as a member of the Nominating Committee please send me an email as soon as possible (erschmid@iupui.edu). We need the committee in place by mid-October so we can start gathering the nominations for the three positions.

As for serving as an officer in this chapter - I ask that all members give serious and thoughtful consideration to running for one of the three offices up for election this year. This chapter, in order to properly serve its members, requires members to step up and serve in leadership roles within the chapter. I know we're all extremely busy with work, family, and other personal endeavors but I also know we have many members out there with the leadership ability and tenacity to continue to build this chapter into a great organization for security professionals in the Indianapolis area.
